Event Details

Begining in Tacoma, we will load the bus and head to Heritage Meats, a new USDA meat processing facility in Rochester, and see a unique Meat Facilty that has both a USDA and Custom meat licensed facilty under one roof. Tracy Smaciarz, Owner will give us a tour of the facility and answer questions from farmers. We will then  visit two USDA approved farm sites for slaughter between Rochester and Puyallup. After these visits we will see the Puget Sound Meat Producer Cooperative's USDA Mobile Processing Unit and walk through the trailer with a tour given by Cheryl Ouelette a.k.a The Pig Lady, the Co-op's Project Manager.

 

 

 

8:30 Meet at Tacoma Mall

8:45 Depart Tacoma Mall for Heritage Meats

10:00 Arrive at Heritage Meats

11:30 Depart Heritage Meats

12:30 Box Lunch at and tour of Lee Markholt’s Custom Meat Business, The Meat Shop,        and organic beef farm

1:45 Arrive Pat Crask’s Farm, site of the Puget Sound Meat Cooperative’s Mobile Processing Unit

3:00 Depart Pat’s Farm for Cheryl Ouelette’s Farm

3:15 Arrive Cheryl Ouelette’s Farm

4:40 Depart Cheryl’s Farm for Tacoma Mall

5:00 Arrive Tacoma Mall and adjourn

 

 

Transportation, lunch and snacks will be provided. Registration costs cover your food for the day.

It is parallel to I-5 on the west side between 38th Street and 48th Street in Tacoma. Please park across the entry way from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and in the parking lot in front of Sears but away from the store entrance and closer to Tacoma Mall Blvd.
